Iris
Registration is a technology available on the VISX platform with CustomVue treatments. During a preoperative examination, the patient’s eyes are measured while sitting up. However, laser vision correction is delivered with the patient laying down. It is not uncommon for the patient’s eyes to rotate either clockwise or counterclockwise when the patient lies down from a sitting position. If this is not taken into account, the treatment will be delivered off-axis resulting in poor vision.
With iris registration, a scan of the iris (the colored part of the eye) is taken when the patient is sitting up. After the patient lies down, the computer system compares the scan with the position of the iris. The laser treatment is rotated to ensure an on-axis treatment. This introduces a novel level of precision and accuracy.
